Central Little League: Charlottesville, VA

COVID-19 Operations Update

Updated as of August 17, 2020

Central Little League's Board of Directors has approved re-opening the league on September 8, 2020 assuming that the Commonwealth of Virginia remains in at least Phase II of the Governor's plan to re-open Virginia and neither the City of Charlottesville nor Albemarle County have announced more stringent restrictions.  Some of the highlights of this re-opening include:

1.  Practices may begin September 8 with no games planned, with the season ending on October 31.  Should the City of Charlottesville allow games, we will reconsider how to integrate games into the season but we do not currently have games planned.

2.  If you registered your child for the Spring season and have not canceled the registration, your child will automatically be registered for the Fall season.

3.  The Fall Registration portal is now closed.

4.  Since we are only practicing for the Fall, we will ask all families to have their own helmets and gloves for their children.  Bats will still be provided and will be wiped down after each use.  We will also only allow two children at the Upper Minors and Majors levels to use catcher's equipment during a practice.  The catcher's equipment will be wiped down after the practice.  Coach pitch and tee ball levels will not have catcher's equipment.

5.  Coaches will be required to wear masks when within 6 feet of anyone while at the practice facility.

6.  A safety coach for each team (a parent assigned by the head coach) will take temperatures of children before entering the field and all children will be asked to use hand sanitizer before entering practice and upon leaving practice.  The safety coach will enforce this and will enforce all social distancing during practice as well.

7.  We will ask parents to be more involved, particularly at the tee ball and coach pitch levels.  Since those two levels are very instructive, we will require a parent or guardian to be with each child the entire practice since coaches will not be able to place their hands on the children to show proper technique.  At each level, a coach will designate one parent as the safety coach for the practice.  That safety coach will be responsible solely for ensuring that social distancing is being practiced by the children.

8.  We have created a webpage on our site (viewable on the menu above) for families to report potential exposure to COVID-19.  Upon the reporting of the potential exposure, the Board will evaluate the threat and inform families using our email listserv.  Please make sure that your email accounts are up to date and please remove any potential spam filters to ensure getting our updates in a timely manner.

We expect to update this plan as needed during the season.
