Central Little League: Charlottesville, VA

GENERAL INFORMATION

Softball Tee Ball is the first step in playing organized softball.  The Tee Ball experience is grounded in fun, fitness, and fundamentals to help your daughter's love for the game to grow.

The focus is on introducing basic softball concepts such as hitting, throwing, and catching with an emphasis on fun, sportsmanship, and team building.  All batters reach the base each inning and all players score runs.  Coaches emphasize the encouragement of teammates during games and attempt to highlight the positive contributions of each player.  Coaches are on the field with the players during the game.

DIVISION SUMMARY

Ages: Little League age 4-6 (Click here to determine Little League Age)
Players who are Little League age 6 are eligible to enroll in Tee Ball or Coach Pitch.

Times and locations:  Tee Ball games are generally played on Saturday mornings at Booker T. Washington Park on Preston Avenue. Each Tee Ball team will practice once per week. Practices are generally on weeknights after 5:00pm, and the time and location will vary.

Tee Ball Format:
Tee Ball is a great first experience for a child to learn softball and enjoy being on a team. All players get to bat every inning and learn all of the different field positions. The emphasis is on having fun while learning the sport.

Equipment Recommendations:

Ball Size:
The league uses a 10" padded ball

Glove Size
Make sure your glove can fit a 10"  ball. Some of the  smaller gloves  marketed for tee ball (such as 8.5" length) can accommodate a baseball but not a 10" softball.

Batting Helmet:
All players need a batting helmet with a facemask attached.

Cleats:
Cleats are strongly recommended. Cleats marketed for other sports work just fine. No metal spikes are allowed.

Uniforms:
The league will provide a visor and a uniform shirt. Players  should provide their own solid black pants and black socks.

Bat Size:
Tee ball bats are typically 24" to 26" in length. Check Dick's Sporting Goods page here for a softball bat buying guide.
Little League requires softball bats to have a USSSA stamp/logo and  have a BPF (bat performance factor) of 1.20.  Most new bats on the market will meet this requirement and most have met this requirement for several years. See logo below.
