Ages: League ages 8-11 (Click here to determine
Little League Age)
Players that are league age 8 are eligible for coach pitch or player pitch (upper minors). Players who are interested in playing up to Majors must try out and be evaluated to play at that level.
Times and locations: Minors games are generally played on Saturday morning/early afternoon at Azalea Park. In the fall season, teams practice 1 night per week. In the spring season, teams practice 2 nights per week. Practices are generally on weeknights after 5:00pm and time and location will vary.
Pitching: Players are pitching from a pitching rubber that is 35' from the back of home plate.
Ball Size:
The league uses a 11" ball
Required Equipment:
Fielding Glove:
Make sure your glove can fit a 11" ball comfortably. Average fielding glove size may range from 10.5" - 12".
Batting Helmet:
All players need a well-fitting batting helmet with a facemask attached.
Fielding Mask:
*NEW RULE* Fielding masks are required at all times.
Cleats:
Cleats are strongly recommended. Cleats marketed for other sports work just fine. No metal spikes are allowed.
Uniforms:
The league will provide a visor and a uniform shirt. Players should provide their own solid black softball pants and black socks (or team color socks).
Equipment Recommendations:
Sliding shorts/Knee pads: Sliding will be required at the Minors level. Wearing is sliding shorts or knee pads is optional, but helpful to protect against scrapes and bruises.
Bat Size:
Typical bat size at this level may range from 27" to 30" in length. Check Dick's Sporting Goods page here for a softball bat buying guide. Little League requires softball bats to have a USSSA stamp/logo and have a BPF (bat performance factor) of 1.20. Most new bats on the market will meet this requirement and most have met this requirement for several years. See logo below.
