General Information

Coach Pitch Softball is designed to build a solid foundation for becoming a successful softball player.  The focus of this division is introducing basic softball concepts such as catching, throwing, hitting, batter safety, base running, fielding, and rules of the game with special emphasis on having fun, working hard, and being a good sport.

The rules are modified to increase player success and confidence and give each kid an equal opportunity to participate and succeed.  At this level, athletes are learning how to play defense at multiple infield positions and how to make outs. Typically all players will get a chance to bat each inning. Players get 5 pitches from the coach, then a batting tee is used if a pitched ball is not hit. 



 

Division Information

Ages: League ages 6-8
Players age 8 are eligible for coach pitch or player pitch (upper minors).

Pitching: Coaches provide 5 pitches to the batter.  After five pitches with no hit in fair play, the batter will use a tee.

Equipment Recommendations:

Ball Size: 
The league uses a 11" ball

Glove Size: 
Make sure your glove can fit a 11"  ball. comfortably. Average fielding glove size may range from 9.5" - 11".

Bat Size:
Coach pitch bats may range from 25" to 28" in length. Check Dick's Sporting Goods page here for a softball bat buying guide.

Helmet: 
All players need a helmet with a facemask attached.

Fielding Mask:
Fielding masks are required when playing in the pitcher's circle on defense and are encouraged for other times. Athletes can opt out of playing in the pitcher fielding position.

Cleats: 
Cleats are strongly recommended. Cleats marketed for other sports work just fine.

Uniforms:
The league will provide a visor and a uniform shirt, but do not provide pants and socks. Players  should provide their own solid black pants
